Location of files for access by Barton employees: T:\BartonBrand
All logo files for Barton Community College are organized inside three folders: Process Color, Spot Color and Web.
Process color print files are for projects that are most often going to be used in work done by the Public Relations Office or by the Print Shop.
The files most often used by most everyone else will be found in the Spot Color folder. You will find the following formats: EPS, JPG, GIF, and PDF. All various color combinations are organized by folder. Place these in your Microsoft applications as needed for your best preview and print results.
EPS file formats will usually print the best, can be sized up or down without loss of quality, but may look poor on the screen because Microsoft does not render the preview well.
JPG file formats have a white background so will not look the best placed on top of a colored background. JPG file formats are usually chosen if the artwork was a photograph or if there was a blend or shaded area of color.
GIF file formats can be saved with transparency so they can be placed on top of a colored background. GIF file formats are usually chosen if the artwork had flat areas of colors.
PDF file formats can be opened by anyone who has Acrobat Reader so that gives everyone the opportunity to view the file.
The Web folder contains a transparent .PNG file format followed by a number indicating the pixel width dimension of the art. (ex: wordmark200.png) For placing art on the Barton web site using OmniUpdate, the 50% column is 300 pixels wide and the 30% column is 200 pixels wide.
PNG file formats can be saved with transparency so they can be placed on top of a colored background. They can be saved with a higher quality than a GIF, more like a JPG, but without the high file size and the added benefit of transparency.
*Do not store copies of the logo files on your computer or network storage folders in case changes or updates are made to the master files. The files in Barton Brand will always be the current, official version.
Please contact Connie Wagner at wagnerc@bartonccc.edu if you have any questions or problems with the art files.
