Dr. Carl Heilman, Ph.D.
Fifth President of Barton Community College
Dr. Carl R. Heilman is Barton’s fifth president and began his tenure in July 2006.
Heilman came to Barton, having served as President of Lincoln Trail College in Robinson, Illinois from 2003-2006; Vice President for instruction and student services at Northland Pioneer College in Holbrook, Arizona from 1993-2003; and Chairperson for Special Needs at Iowa Lakes Community College from 1987-1993.
While residing in Arizona, Heilman served three years as Board member for the high school consortium, Northern Arizona Vocational Institue of Technology and has served in multiple civic organizations since that time period.
Heilman earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls and master’s degrees from UNI and Mankato State University in Mankato, Minn. In 1992, he earned a doctorate from Iowa State University in Ames.
Heilman’s wife, Sheri, is a lifelong educator whose duties have included teaching, coaching, staff development and administration. Currently, Sheri teaches English at Great Bend Middle School. The Heilman family includes two daughters, Brooke, 20, and Ali, 17, and two sons, Scott, 7 and Maximus, 3.
