High school students can make considerable progress towards their educational goals either through the College Advantage program and/or the Get Ahead Program (GAP). Both programs are available to sophomores, juniors, seniors and gifted underclassmen with their principal’s approval.

STUDENT GUIDE - Starting College in High School
Students learn first hand the demands of going to college while still in high school. They experience the process of enrolling in college classes; get a feel for the costs associated with tuition, fees and textbooks; and participate in classes addressing the same outcomes and competencies as courses offered on the Barton campus. Courses vary by participating high school; dual credits are determined by high school administration.
Coursework is available in the fall and spring semesters and is offered right in the student’s high school building. Faculty members are generally high school instructors who serve as Barton associate faculty members. Students participating in the College Advantage program via the North Central Distance Learning Network (NCDLN) receive instruction from Barton’s full-time faculty members.
A student’s transition from high school to college is enhanced and students are introduced to academic enrichment and challenging college coursework. Students and their families are exposed to valuable learning lessons which support remaining college experiences.
Experience the ultimate college experience while still in high school!! If you live within driving distance of the Barton County Campus, the GAP program offers a chance for you to enroll in coursework right in the midst of the college environment. GAP classes are primarily offered in the afternoons. Course choices include general education and career focused class offerings. Classes traditionally meet Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday from 1:30-3:00p.m.
