Striving to develop training opportunities to support the workforce.
I’ve worked for the past 8 years advocating for children and families. In 2003-2006, I was involved with Healthy Communities-Healthy Youth Initiative in Pennsylvania; in 2006-2010 I worked for Southeastern Oklahoma Child Care Resource and Referral. Both positions included networking and partnering with community agencies, business leaders, legislators, and other entities. My motivation in both of these positions was my passion for helping people to achieve their goals and to become as successful as possible. I feel that my position at BCC will give me opportunities to continue pursuing my passion for people’s successes!
I grew up in Montana and have a great love of the outdoors. The Kansas skies remind me so much of the “Big Sky Country” back in Montana. My family feels very blessed to have Cheyenne Bottoms and Quivira NWR in such close proximity.
My husband Dave (Shafer Gallery Director) and I are both professional artists. My work focuses on my respect for the power and fragility of nature. I am currently represented by a gallery in Denison, TX and also have work in various collections around the country. I have two grown children, ages 27 and 25, and our daughter Kestrel (age 13) lives with us at home. She is a budding photographer and also has great drawing skills!
