Join the “Barton Stars” in Supporting Community Arts
Ten Community members are helping Barton Community College initiate a fund drive to help raise money to advance the performing arts in our community. The 10 members comprise five teams that will compete in an event titled,
“Dancing with the Barton Stars.”
Where the Money Goes
Proceeds from the event will go toward renovation of the Barton Fine Arts Auditorium, which is 40 years old and needs updating. The auditorium lights and sound system are antiquated and parts are no longer available for repairs. The renovation plan calls for replacing the lights and sound system, as well as reconfiguring the seats for better access to aisles, and re-carpeting the area. The total estimate for the renovation to the auditorium is $400,000.

Miss Kansas Biography
A native of Wichita, Kansas, Lauren Werhan became Miss Kansas 2010 on June 12 in Pratt Kansas. She is the daughter of Rodney and Linda Werhan and is one of four children. Prior to winning the Miss Kansas title, Werhan was a student at Wichita State University working towards a degree in Strategic Communications. As Miss Kansas 2010, Lauren has partnered with Do the Deed and Volunteer Kansas to promote her platform of “Do the Deed: Deeds of Service.” During her year of service as Miss Kansas, Lauren hopes to take this platform across the state, encouraging individuals everywhere to find ways to volunteer in their own communities. In her personal effort to promote volunteerism, she has travelled to Thailand to volunteer at an orphanage, lobbied at our state capitol for
legislation giving financial support to aid children with autism, and is working locally with Do the Deed to promote volunteerism throughout the state of Kansas. Lauren represented the state of Kansas at the 2011 Miss America pageant in Las Vegas, Nevada in January.
